Pennies for Patients Fundraiser
Jill Minnich

New Bridge is registered to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Series’ Pennies for Patients.

New Bridge is registered to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Series’ Pennies for Patients.

Pennies for Patients is a science-based, service learning program. Pennies for Patients connects schools with local blood cancer patients, provides tangible life skills to participants, and allow students to see the impact they’re making in the lives of others.

Not only will our students be collecting money to help find cures for blood cancer patients, but they will also learn about service, leadership, and philanthropy.

WHAT: We want this experience to be fun with no stress to parents or families! Students are encouraged to bring CASH or CHANGE to donate to this cause. Students can find the cash/change on the sidewalk, from cleaning out the car, in between the couch cushions, or it can be donated from another family member who would like to help in this cause!

WHEN: December 9-13 ;  Donations will be collected in the morning (7:30am-8:00am)!

WHO: Any who is able to participate!

WHERE: Donations will be collected in main lobby of the school!

The class and grade level who donate the most money will earn either an Olive Garden lunch party or a pizza party!

Online Registration for All New and Returning Students
Jill Minnich

All new and returning students must complete online registration

All returning and new parents must complete the yearly online registration forms prior to school starting. (This includes all current New Bridge students and new Gramercy students). We do not do paper registration forms anymore. Parents of returning and new students will go to the link https://sis.ogdensd.org/Students/Register/Start  and complete the information there.

  • Student and contact information needs to be updated along with other forms that need to be signed in order for students to participate with technology, field trips, and guidance counseling in the classroom. You will log in with your child’s 1000… number and the password you set up previously.
  • If you have moved over the summer and are unsure if you are still in New Bridge boundaries, please go to https://findmyschool.ogdencity.com/ and put in your address to find your school. Once the registration is complete, we can assign your student to their class and teacher.
  • For help with the yearly registration, you may come to the school beginning Aug 1, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 8 and 1, and an office assistant will help you. You will need your student’s 1000...number and your password. Most students know their number, but the office can give that to you if needed.

Your Challenge:  Design & build a boat that can hold 25 pennies for at least ten seconds before sinking.

Criteria (requirements):

  • Boat must float on water

  • Boat must hold 25 pennies placed by engineer (you)

  • Boat must float for at least 10 seconds after last penny placed

Constraints (limiting factors):

  • Only use materials listed

  • Must be in your classroom, ready to test on September 26

Materials (you can use some or all, not more than):

  • 10-inch strip of duct tape

  • 1 paper cup (8-ounce or larger)

  • 10-inch strip of plastic wrap

  • 10 straws

(To test at home:  container filled with water, 25 pennies)

Explore & Design:  Think about…

  1. How will you make a boat that floats well enough to support 25 pennies without sinking?

  2. Should your boat be a platform (raft or barge) or an open boat (rowboat or canoe)?

  3. What’s the best way to make your boat waterproof?

  4. How big do you need to make your boat to hold 25 pennies?

Take it to the Next Level (optional challenges for you to try):

  • Change your boat so it holds 50 pennies for at least 10 seconds before sinking.

  • Build another boat that can hold 25 pennies for 10 seconds, but only use half the materials.

Criteria (requisitos):
